Motivation

get ready to hear some cliche ass stuff. But there is some truth to these things…

I learned from my mother, by example, and in so many words. That anything is possible if you want it enough. Getting that “something” in the end is really the true measure of whether or not you really wanted it. If it was easily dismissed or tossed aside, was it really that important to you?

Lets not talk about the “little things” right now. Not about buying an Iphone or a pair of chuck norris action jeans (yes, they are a real thing) Lets talk about the larger things. The things that are lost or won early early on, in planning, in training, in practice.  The things that are just barely attainable, out of reach. But they are out there for you if you want it bad enough.

This is much easier using an example.

Let me use Nick as an example, winning the Crossfit games is his goal. (we can all relate to crossfit goals in here)

He knows that his goal is realistic, he knows the timeframe he has to do it in.

The Crossfit games won’t be won out there on the pull up bar or at the top of the rope, at the last rep of the last event.

Its won in Nick’s mind, he has made his mind up, he is going to win it.

Its won in the gym, and everywhere else Nick goes.

Its easy to say you have the willpower. But If its really there, the willpower will make it out of your mind and into your actions.

It starts with the willpower to do all of the little difficult, obnoxious, tedious, things.

To go to bed early.

To wake up early, and drive out in the gym to the dark.

To work out alone and often. Even when he doesn’t want to.

To not work out when he is injured. to be smart, and resist the temptation.

To eat not what he wants, when he wants, but what he should.

To study and know what he has to do, and how to do it.

To Fail, and fail, and fail, and fail.

and fail.

and never lose sight of his goal, no matter what.

To find out what he did wrong, fix it, and do it again, with a smile on his face.

To lift the bar with 10 seconds left, when he doesnt want to.

because one more rep, could mean one more rep at the games.

That one more rep could mean the difference between winning or losing the games.

All of these little things add up…

It all starts with your motivation to want to do it, and the willpower to execute it.

Find out what motivates you, get your ass up, and get some shit done today, then get some shit done tomorrow, and then the next day.

All of that getting shit done, it adds up, and you’d be surprised at what you can accomplish.

So when you see Aaron Bell Snatching weight above his head that I can’t budge off the floor, Carl hauling ass and murdering someone on the rugby field, Joe Mcphie chucking a stone at the highland games, Tyler running up the steps at the firefighter combat challenge. Its because they wanted it, they worked for it, they are working for it, and if they fail, or they fall short. They will get up, say f*ck yeah, and go back to work.

Jon Gilson told Nick, this is a lifelong journey, these large goals sometime take longer than just a couple months to accomplish ;)

This holds true not for just these physical accomplishments, anything you want to accomplish in your life that require more than just a passing glance. So whether it be starting a business, a family, shooting gamma rays at something and doing a lot of things I dont quite understand (lol lindsay)  being Q.A. of the year at your job, rehabbing a serious injury and returning your body back to normal.

Get your ass up and do something about it.

It takes studying, planning, practice, implementation, drive, focus, willpower, dedication, failing, motivation.

So as I read back on the post I always think, eh…this sounds stupid but I plan on posting it anyways. So if that doesnt motivate you. Watch these motivational videos, if that doesnt, find something that does.

This reminded me Brandon to thank you again for pushing me on those last two reps yesterday. I really, really felt like I could not even get one more set in the time remaining but you showed me that I was capable of more.

Brandon, you outdid yourself again. A perfect post for a perfect (or not-so-perfect) wod! It is a mindset and I can tell the difference when my heart and mind is not into it. The thought of doing Annie rx’d intimidated me, but I didn’t want to do it with scaling again. I’m glad I put my mind to doing it even when I wanted to quit and even with all of you watching me stumble to the finish. I feel great knowing I accomplished a daunting task. Thanks, guys! :)

Awesome post Brandon! :) Your wisdom is beyond your years. :) Must be that PHS education. Hee hee.

I want to thank everyone at CFSB- from all of us that came over from CFM- for letting us join your family. This was a VERY difficult decision (I think I am talking for most of us)as I am sure it would be for all of you to leave one family and join another, but you have made this a very easy transition. Your kindness and willingness to let us “invade” on your turf is beyond words-so from the bottom of our hearts I thank you again. We are happy to be here and have this opportunity to workout with all of you! You are amazing! :)

Good job, Karen! I’m sad that I missed it!

Excellent post, Brandon. Reminds me of how much I have been slacking, as of late, and that I need to get my head on straight. In a lot of ways.

Chuck Norris action jeans. Perhaps that is the key to improving my rx’d times and motivation when I am lacking??

When Chuck Norris does a push up, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down.

    Appropriate crossfit post right?
